This picture just about sums up my life! Just kidding... but in all reality I LOVE WINE! I feel like I am a fine bottle of full-bodied wine, and when you uncork me i'm full of different aromas and flavors. So i'll be posting some of my favorites! And for all the inexperienced wine drinkers who just grab bottle that looks pretty from a gas station! DON"T! I learned a lot about wine from waitressing for years, and there is a better way to pick a good wine, other than how it looks. You can learn so much from it if you just know how to read the label!
^This is my all time FAVE!!! This is Santo Moscato D'asti. First of all I found that I prefer white wines from Italy ,over anything else. This one happens to be one of Italy's most popular , and it's no wonder why. This is so so crisp and fresh . As an experienced wine-drinker i can definitely tell that it has been filtered numerous times., which is totally appreciate. This is also a semi-sparkling wine ( frizzante) , which is great because i don't like to much fizz, which is why i don't drink beer- waaaay too carbonated. Anyways it only runs about $17 , and I believe I bought it at costco.
Wine labels can be a little intimidating to read if you don't understand them. Excuse me when i say a lot of it is meaningless crap! So here is a guide to reading the important stuff.
1. The producer - This is pretty self explanatory , the producer is who made the wine! This really isn't necessary in picking a type of wine, besides using it to distinguish from the others.
2. Varietal- This is extremely important! This is how you know exactly what types of grapes where used to make the wine. Chardonnay , for example , uses a green skinned grape. This is important because green skinned grapes are known for being very neutral , which means their region determines the flavor.
3. Where the grapes where grown (region)- The region in the example is Monterey county, California. The climate where the grapes where grown is important in determining the flavor. California grapes are known for their intense fruit characteristics. This is because California had morning heat , and late afternoon fog, which is then infused into the grapes.
4.Vintage - This is the year the grapes were harvested. your multi-vintage or non-vintage wines are going to be a lower quality wine. 2007 was a particularly good year for wine, because of the weather, which led to smaller berries - increasing the skin to juice ratio.
4. Alcohol content- Alright guys, this is the good stuff right here! How much wine is going to get you drunk? But in reality the higher the alcohol the bigger the flavors are going to be. Generally the higher alcohol wines are made from riper grapes and have more fruit flavors.
